So on a Saturday nite I decided to see the libidinous film “Shame” starring the deliciously
handsome Michael Fassbender (Xmen, Prometheus). Fassbender plays NY native who also happens
to be a 30-something sex addict.
The film opens to him swaggering naked through his apartment
beginning his day. He dresses and boards
the subway. The director makes subtle
use of wordless music and long exchanged glances to show that this sex addict
doesn’t need to troll bars to find his trick of the day.
His world is fine and dandy until his hot mess of a sister,
played surprisingly enough by Carey Mulligan (An Education, Pride &
Prejudice), breaks into his house and uses his shower. He find her there naked and her not covering
up leads to a whole will-they-or-won’t-they thread of thought throughout the
film. Yikes. Yeah its sorta like that.
Anyhew, it’s a darkly sexual film that’s not for the
prudish.
