MAGIC MIKE, a culturally bankrupt movie review

So tonight me and a gal pal went to see the male stripper movie, “Magic Mike”.  Now I’m usually more choosey in my movie choices, but what can I say, I’m a sucker for men with beautiful bodies.  The theatre was like a bachelorette party, teaming with women.

This film had plenty to oogle.  Such as Matt Boomer (from White Collar), Channing Tatum (Step-Up), Joe Manganiello (True Blood) and the surprising resilence of Matthew McConaughey.  Say what you will about Matthew M, he is still in fine fine form.

Having said that (jude cracks knuckles). This film was about a 19 yr old guy Adam who is taken under the wing of "Magic Mike" into the world of male stripping.  It’s a fast lifestyle to say the least and Adam finds himself facing the good, the bad and the ugly in 90 minutes or less. 

Plenty to enjoy here, beautiful men, and shot in a slightly rough style, this film makes you feel privilege to everything that goes on behind the curtain as well.  P.S. They showed a lot of shit I didn’t think they would, yowza!

Current shtuff & Your Sister's Sister. etc

So I haven't much since my debacle with Google in April.  I will try to post more.  Okay having said that I happened across an indie film that intrigues me.  That film is: My sister's sister.

A film about two friends guy/girl.  The girl, played by the dark and talented Emily Blunt, tries to help the guy who's not doing much with his life but loafing and drinking etc.  She sends him off to a remote house inhabited her sister.  The two hit it off like gangbusters.


Its an indie film currently playing in Malverne.  I hope to see it soon.



 

Also, for the still single girl yada, yada and/or those in need of the quirky single girl movie (me me), there is Lola Versus.

By the same people that made 500 Days of Summer.  Mostly no name 20+ actors its the story of girl get dumped at the alter and the fallout that ensues.  Looks funny, no really, it does.



 

PROMETHEUS - A MOVIE REVIEW

And so I went to see Promethus this weekend.  This is a Ridley Scot film about a crew, funded by the Weyland Corporation, sent to a planet in search of an alien species. 

Charlize Theron as head bitch in charge, and Naoomi Rapace (Girl With the Dragon tattoo) steal the spotlight in this film.  Although Michael Fassbender as the "synthetic" was pretty outstanding and borderline creepy.  (See clip)

 I had read online that this was a “Alien” prequel, and yes it was.  I had high expectations for this movie as I am a fan of that franchise, having seen all of its films. 

It was good but not great.  How could they have improved this film?  For starters how about the simple use of a voiceover at the beginning.  The first scene in this film left me with too many question marks throughout the film.

Also they could have made things abit more suspenseful.  Am I sorry I went to see it?  Nope I definitely enjoyed it, I guess my expectations were too great. P.S.  Prometheus is the name of the damn ship.

Snow White & The Huntsman - A movie review

A darkly told tale of Snow White starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White and the uber talented Charlize Theron as the wicked Step Mother/Queen.  I had little in the way of expectations of this film.

I was pleasantly surprised and entertained.  Good for watching on a rainy afternoon.  Charlize rocked!

SHAME - a DVD Review

So on a Saturday nite I decided to see the libidinous film “Shame” starring the deliciously

handsome Michael Fassbender (Xmen, Prometheus).  Fassbender plays NY native who also happens to be a 30-something sex addict.

The film opens to him swaggering naked through his apartment beginning his day.  He dresses and boards the subway.  The director makes subtle use of wordless music and long exchanged glances to show that this sex addict doesn’t need to troll bars to find his trick of the day.

His world is fine and dandy until his hot mess of a sister, played surprisingly enough by Carey Mulligan (An Education, Pride & Prejudice), breaks into his house and uses his shower.  He find her there naked and her not covering up leads to a whole will-they-or-won’t-they thread of thought throughout the film.  Yikes.  Yeah its sorta like that.

Anyhew, it’s a darkly sexual film that’s not for the prudish.
